Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, delivered the Government’s Speech from the Throne to open Canada’s 40th Parliament on November 19, 2008.

Ministers Day and Cannon are attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministerial Meeting in Lima, Peru. They are discussing key issues such as open trade and investment and meeting with their APEC counterparts on a number of bilateral and multilateral issues.

This new Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation Agreement will boost collaborative research and development activities between Brazil and Canada in areas of mutual interest. It will also lead to the commercialization of new ideas.

The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Canada’s Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Ron Hoffmann, in Ottawa on November 12, 2008. Minister Cannon and Ambassador Hoffmann discussed a number of issues, including the delivery of Canada’s six priorities in Afghanistan.

On November 6, 2008, the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Beverley Oda, Minister for International Cooperation, and the Honourable Peter Kent, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas), welcomed the President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Luis Alberto Moreno.
